Document Summary

Assumption that all human beings are motivated part by wishes, fantasies or tacit knowledge that is outside of our awareness; unconscious. We are not the masters of our own houses ; impulses and wishes are split from our awareness in order to avoid psychological pain. According to freud earlier on, one"s sexuality and sexual experience were linked to derived wishes involving sexuality and aggression which served as a function of imaginary wish fulfillment and had a huge impact on the problems they faced. Freud later on abandoned the theory that clients had been sexually abused as children and instead focused on the role that sexual instincts play in the developmental process. Sexual feelings are present even during early infancy and give rise to sexually related wishes and fantasies that are pushed out of the consciousness because they were experienced as too threatening.
