January 8, 2015: islam in scandinavia : denmark. Danes fearful of people in not the norm - xenophobic. There are more than 200,000 muslims in denmark, a country with a population of 5. 4 million. Islam has come to be viewed by many as a threat to the survival of danish culture. Denmark wouldnt allow a mosque being built. Funeral back home instead of in denmark. For 20 years, muslims have been denied a permit to build mosques in copenhagen. No muslim cemeteries in denmark, so the bodies of muslims have to be own back to their home countries for proper burial. After the ag burnings, the danish news media began to refer to the white cross on the ag"s red background as a christian symbol.
