Recap from last week: task of sociology. Weber ii and iii: interpretive understand (weber) vs. study of social facts (durkheim, understanding meaning behind social action (4 types, traditional action, value action, festive action, instead we need to interpret the meaning behind why people do things. Ideal types because human beings create value, they are not just shaped by these social conditions therefore you cannot predict what they do in the world: vershtan: ideal types are conceptions of actions and behaviour. They are theoretical constructs and do not exist in pure form. Weber says that in the real world a lot of these ideas and behaviours are synthetic. Thinking about how to accomplish a particular goal in which you: we are becoming more rational within this day of age, rationalization (pg. 145) deem as necessary and how to do that. We are constantly making quicker and more powerful computers.
