Survival; no one is born to know how to parent, to behave, etc. Instinct is a biologically determined behaviour pattern common to al members of a species that predictably occurs whenever certain environmental conditions exist. Human do not have instinct to behave kindly/rudely its through nurture. But what is thought to be instinct is relex/drives. Drive: unlearned biologically determined impulse common to all mem. Of species that satisfy needs ie) sexual gratiication, food, water. Relex: unlearned biologically determined involuntary response to physical stimulus ie) sneezing after pepper. But these do not impact behaviour in societies of people; such are vocalized through culture; ie how to sneeze turn away and into tissue.
