Claude-henri de saint-simon (1760-1825) the sociology of industrialism. Born in paris in an aristocratic family. Went to the usa in 1779 and fought for independence (important experience he saw an example of peaceful nation, entirely dedicated to production) Didn"t go to school and instead entered in the army & became an official. Wanted to create a canal from madrid to the sea (from the atlantic -> pacific) Wanted to organize a commercial centre in paris. In the following years he was busy projecting various initiatives. He was determined to be the founder of the new science of industrial society. He got married in 1801 and organized in his house many receptions with the high-society (scientists, bankers and artists) Divorced in 1802 and became poor 1806. Forced to get a job as a writer by the mount of piety, where he worked 9 hours a day leaving his studies for the night.
