The consensus (agreement) of the group- goals, rules, knowledge, understandings, shared knowledge and values that emerge together. Those who becomes part of the group agree to some control of their own actions through applying the consensus that has arisen. The stuff you work with in everyday life, what you interact, deal, etc: people acquire culture through education, society, religion, family, actions of others = socialization. Agents of socialization teach children what to know. Targets and become agents themselves and influence and resist parents, educators, children around them. Active and interactive view of targets of socialization- exercising agency. Targets are able to influence, resist, shape and act back on. Agents of socialization understands that children can interpret on their own. Agents of socialization: those who attempt to teach, shape, form and influence others. Targets of socialization: those who are the subject of socialization efforts. Learning how to be functioning/effective member of society via core social institutions such as family.
