Props or different costumes to fulfill the role of being on stage or off stage. Focuses on the general idea of performance: acting, role, character. Gender is not about performing a role, but gender is about repeating or reiterating certain things over and over till the point they become natural and through this reputation we come to understand gender. He is only a boy because the doctor said so: after that, there is a continuous repetition of the doctors claiming what gender a human baby is and then over time we see this as normal. There is nothing definitively true about gender, it is what they say it is. That is so performative , what they"re saying is that it is essentially bringing itself into being, a lot of people would say that biographies are true. Gender is nothing innate or tangible, but something we declare and repeat over and over and then we believe it.
