In the sarakatsan community, the father holds the authority until the eldest son gets married. After getting married, a women is never referred to as her baptisimal name unless visiting her old town, instead she takes her husbands name plus the suffix ina. Divorce and adultery are permitted in greece. No outside person or group has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of a family. It is only within the privacy of the home thhhat a man or woman can relax, or laugh or give and receive affection. Women are expected to play a more submissive role with the expectation of them to walk slowly and present a downcast gaze. Very secret and closed off society, they do not know little things and children are trained to act this way at young age (even small things like what the wife is cooking for dinner)
