George orwell once wrote the quote who controls the past controls the future. And who controls the present controls the past (kit 89). In essence, this quote meant that those in power are constantly changing the society; those who previously obtained power altered the future, and those who currently hold power could change the past. Marchak, mcneill, and zinn have all supported this claim through their readings, proving that this power does not necessarily refer to the supremacy obtained from a traditional hierarchy, but to the power of knowledge that one may possess. Through the eyes of society, knowledge gives individuals credibility and respect, enabling these figures to control the way the public may view certain aspects of life. Thus, through the impact of those in power, the past and future can be dictated. Marchak"s piece called ideology and social organization provided evidence of how those in power can transform a society"s outcome.
