Document Summary

A traditional society refers to a society that is characterized and organized according to closed ancient beliefs and habits. This kind of society does not accept change, modern society, however, is constantly changing. The modern society values change, creativity, and promotes individual creativity. To help understand traditional society and the transition to modern society, i will use the following four articles: j. k. Campbells article the family as a corporate group , e. pthompson"s iv. Daniel bell"s discretionary social behavior , and edward shils"s the theory of mass. Extracts from these readings will be used to argue that the traditional society values prestige, honour and family, whereas the modern society has molded into a mass consumption society which values only materialistic goods. Both, modern and traditional societies have different social morals that both create a fear of loss within individuals, which compel them to pursue the predominant components and laws of society.
