1. Third Wave Feminisms
This is a very dynamic, open ended, flexible feminism which stresses an intersectional analysis, &
a multiplicity of feminisms
Goals: to explore & expose sexism and patriarchy and other ‘isms’; and to transform/create a new
world
- Shattering and opening up the definition of feminism
- Necessity for the need of a intersectional analysis
- More emphasis on activism than educating getting out and doing
- Time period is an influence utilizes technology, challenge boundaries, remove labels, etc.

2. Main themes & analysis:
Being inclusive while recognizing differences
- Achieve balance piercy trying to create balanced utopian world
- Homogenize 2nd wave fem
- 3rd wave importance to sisterhood “sisterhood is global” (motto in the beginning)
Anti-essentialist, sees gendering as socially, historically constructed and dynamic, flexible
Emphasis on:
o activism or ‘doing’, providing a synthesis between theory & practice
o personal empowerment & agency
o making alliances with other social justice movements
o breaking down boundaries, especially binary categories or boundaries of sex,
gender, sexuality
o developing a complex analysis of power relations & dynamics
o bodies and embodiments
