Document Summary

There are recent assumptions that challenge the way we think about gender and sex. First-wave feminism: simone de beauvoir is often seen as the founder of this movement. One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman . We become men and women through learned behaviour. We learn to walk in certain types of ways, ways of speaking, way of dressing etc. But basically the social construct of that it means to be a man and a woman: what it means to be a woman changes over time and place as well. Gender in bullfighting: the outfits males where in the fights are not considered to be very masculine. However, in bullfighting, it is the way you hold your body and the having the courage to face a bull: when a woman does it, some view it as sexy but some view it as disgusting. This caused a somewhat liberating campaign for women at the time.
