Raewayn connell"s, hegemonic masculinity : multiple masculinities, cant take away race, class etc, hegemonic = interplay of force and consent, dominant = force, hegemony requires consent, i consent to it because it feels normal and good, hegemonic masculinity = ideal type/mythical norm, guide our behaviour, underneath the surface of hegemony is always the threat of violence, for example: boys joke around to make friends and part of being masculine.
