Primarily made up of us academics/ social scientists: northern view, multi-disciplinary in the sense of many different scientists (sociologists,economists,etc. ) addressing the same issue, mainstream view. Development era (1950s: us global hegemony, golden era of capitalism, cold war. Evolution theory: social evolution = transition from inferior to superior society: use of dichotomies. Harrison: underdevelopment is a state of mind . Attitude obstacles (looking at the social structures and values b/c we are brought up in those systems we develop attitudes enabling us to want change) Particular personality traits (that tended to be backward looking making people stuck in a traditional society) Countries like in latin america lacked modern entrepreneurial personality. Peoples personality was unadoptable to change, individuals lacked their ability to make individual decisions and choices, they were primarily unwillingly to challenge traditions, and lacked the drive for achievement.
