Document Summary

Sandel presents ethical questions in such a way that he thinks can be answered in at least 3 different ways. He illustrates these points through 3 different case studies. The first case study concerns: potential price gauging, awarding purple hearts to veterans, awarding of bonuses to ceo"s who have received bail-out funds. (companies that remain afloat only because the us tax payers has subsidized their accounts) In each of these cases we see how different actions and alternatives can benefits different parties involved and how it makes them more or less happy which looks again at welfare, Freedom and virtue however sandel stresses that the most important is virtue. The argument against it is that it takes unfair advantage of those who are in a desperate situation. Sandel concludes that what"s really wrong with it is it allows greed run amok and that these are just bad people. Awarding purple hearts to veterans for psychological injuries.
