Early law and society scholarship produced by critical scholars in law schools; as opposed today, more produced and written by people who live outside of law school: growing change of legal studies programs. Scholarship national, political, law school based, huge history on legal history. How he tried to draw parameters of legal scholarship. Research articles -> define object of study. Has legal institutions, practices, and meanings, as object of study. If studying changes in law and society in 30 years, must decide what legal scholarship is. Legal scholars with interdisciplinary spirit but not limited to this: includes interdisciplinary, legal anthropology, geography, history, etc, current field more interdisciplinary than previously, how we study object of law has changed dramatically, more self-consciously interdisciplinary scholars. Special issues of canadian journal of law and society. Histories of colonialisms + aboriginal law + legal pluralism etc.
