The healthy immigrant effect to say that immigrants come here healthy more than 5 years later of moving here. As well as immigrant born children start to get sick over time. With the exception of first nation"s populations, everyone came from somewhere. Immigrants undergo a rigorous health screening process prior to entering canada. This accounts for their healthier status as compared to the canadian born population: this is because canada"s immigration policy has been historically racist. Immigrants typically arrive in canada better-than-average health (ng et al). The healthy immigrant effect diminishes over time. Some medical problems may arise as immigrants age like anyone else. Other problems may occur as immigrants are integrated and adopt behaviours that have negative health impacts. Other conditions may result from the process of immigration itself including: financial constraints, employment programs, lack of social support network. Despite canada"s universal health care system, language barriers may prevent immigrants from accessing it.
