Wanted to control everything and no government or permission from them. Civil war breaks out between those in favour of the king (cavaliers) those against and for the government (the round heads after their hair style) 1649: charles i accused of treason, tried and condemned and beheaded: cromwell & the commonwealth. Cromwell is charles son. leads commonwealth (interregnum) Theatre is officially closed: theatre during the commonwealth. Men playing women on stage turns them on = bad sin.
