Building a life writing essay: evidence, idea, essay. Thought-reflection: telling us what happened description, telling us what it means t-r, can happen within a scene, can happen after a scene or a source. Add sources; complicate your thinking: we move, always, from specific evidence to idea to essay. Two kinds: analyzing a scene, text, or object, telling us what you think about what the scene, text, or object says; and telling us why that matters (to us). Begins with evidence, creates movement, builds, through t-r, to essay. Building an idea through discovery: t/r, t/r, t/r, closely read (a scene, a text, an object) as closely as you did girl with a pearl earring, tell us what the scene/object shows or the text says. Have additional thoughts?: connect a text to your t/r (as we did with october sky, tell us what the author says, tell us what you make of that in relation to your previous thinking.
