Document Summary
Eventually the rate of both the forward and reverse reacons are the same = reaching equilibrium. K may be produced in: the concentraons of products divided by the concentraons of the reactants. Large values of k = reacon proceeds almost to compleon (to the right) Small value of k = reacon hardly goes. K = 1 = neither reactants nor products are favoured. Example: reacon of water and oxygen may take millions of years even though the equilibrium constant is very large. Stress is applied to a system at equilibrium = system reacts in such a way to reduce the stress. Addion of reacon components causes equilibrium to shik to the lek side. Removal of reacon components causes equilibrium to shik to the right side. Most biochemical reacons occur in a series of reacons rather than one single reacon called metabolic pathway.
