Homo erectus evolved 1. 9-2 mya and existed until 200 kya. They were the first to leave africa. It is possible something left before, but very unclear. We know erectus left because we find 1. 8 myo tools and their fossils outside africa 1. 5-1. 75 mya. H. erectus is characterized by an increase in brain size from early homo species and an increase in body size (somatic growth). These combined suggest an increase of chloric consumption or higher quality food. We"re going from these 3ft tall species that we"ve been looking at to something that looks very human like and has modern body proportions and modern stature. With early h. erectus we still don"t have modern human life history. We can tell by finding sub-adult, immature h. erectus skeletons. With h. erectus we get some changes in life history that are more human like.
