Document Summary

Human blood type is a codominant trait: in codominant inheritance, heterozygotes display the effects of both alleles in their phenotype, human blood type is an example. Alleles for blood type code for different surface markers on red blood cells. A mismatched blood transfusion causes immune rejection: agglutination: blood cell clumping and elimination. Eyes-polygenic traits: multiple genes affect one trait (aabbcc) Height- polygenic trait and the environment (multifactorial: human height is both polygenic and multifactorial. Multifactorial inheritance and depression: serotonin transporter function is linked to depression. Serotonin is an important signaling molecule in the brain. The serotonin transporter influences the levels of serotonin available for signaling. People with depression have lower levels of serotonin in the spaces between cells. Serotonin is released by one brain cell into the space adjacent to another brain cell. When serotonin exerts its effects on the adjacent cell, that cell responds to regulate mood.
