Document Summary

The protestant reformation- began in germany with martin luther and the 95 theses via the printing press. Tradition vs. scripture- the catholics combined the clerics knowledge of the bible with the scripture itself. Regionalism- protestants don"t like someone from rome telling them what to do, when they lived nowhere near rome. Biblical interpretation- the church decides who gets to interpret the bible because they value their level of education over everyone else"s. Clerical hierarchy- they said that only they could interpret the bible and they had a monopoly on the truth due to their hold on general education, had a superiority complex. You - priest - bishop - pope - god. He never felt that he would be a good enough monk to reach salvation. Salvation by grace through faith in god alone. He felt that one would only be saved if god recognized one"s faith and had mercy on them. From this idea, he writes the 95 theses.
