Consistent patterns of emotions and enduring characteristics of individual. Does not show upset when things are changed. Not upset by many things or easily. Need more time to adapt to situation. Experience short period of alertness immediately after birth. Sleep 17-19 hours: gradually awake and responsive for more of day. Show qualities of personality: varies in ways of responding/not responding to similar situations. Prefers to be held close and cuddled when awake. Establish emotional attachment/bonding relationship with parents: varied responses to different individuals. May recognize changes in voice in people around them. Recognizes and reaches out to familiar faces. Develop awareness of self as separate individual. Establishes trust relationship with needs met consistently. Become upset when adult changes toys or offers another toy.
