Safe environment knowing parent is watching over them and child can return to them. Parent makes sure child is going to be okay and safe. Key thing to show child parent is secure base. Correlates with time frame of object permanence. Happens in pre-k or kindergarten as well as toddlerhood. Begins about 7/8 months and peaks about 14 months. Beloved object to make child feel more secure. Schedule departures for when child is less tired, hungry, restless. Play side by side, not with each other.
