CRJ 308 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Foal, Restorative Justice, Labeling Theory
Document Summary
Labeling, interaction, and crime: societal reaction and the creation of criminals. Be the influence internal or external, the focus is on the individual. With labeling theory however, we are looking at those who label the offender as such. By calling someone an offender, they become an offender. Lemert says there are two types of deviance. Primary deviance is deviance that occurs and its defined in addition to other individual behaviors. One may do deviant things, but not be a deviant.
