Strain theory occurs at a micro-level: looking only at the individual themselves. Argues that internal drives and motives are directed from society to commit crime. Different people have different ways to acquire what they need. Strain theory has different levels depending on where a person may be with their socioeconomic status. Strains will be different, but regardless everyone will have some level of strain. Strained individuals are less likely to commit crime unless they move to a different subculture that may be deviant as well. If they cannot meet social class goals, they might end up turning to crime as well. Delinquent offenders- don"t accept the goals or the means.
