PSY 323 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Elaine Hatfield
Document Summary
People who look better have been found to make approximately 10-15% more than average looking people. Beautiful people are thought to be more sociable, extroverted, and popular than average looking people. This means that someone who looks better will probably have more friends more talkative than normal people. In addition, they are thought to be more sexual, happier, and assertive. We may not see the entire story behind particular aspects of somebody"s life. For example, at school a good looking person may be thought to be really happy and have lots of friends. Outside of school, maybe they have a difficult life and are not happy. An equitable relationship is a relationship in which both partners devote equal amounts of effort, time, resources, and rewards to each other. Consequences are generally a lack of happiness or a feeling of a lack of appreciation from the significant other. This may lead to arguments and potentially a break-up.
