Treaty of versailles - this really soured the germans. Soviets got control of eastern europe because they had so many soldiers and it was. Hitler building an empire and his methods - hard to resist them: used rebuilding the economy to help gain control. A lot of construction and u-boat/air force/tank building. 1929: great depression: massive war reparations for germany and they lost bunches of territory, 1/4 people were unemployed, europe was even worse.
