Document Summary
Neurons: basic building block of the neurological system, 100 billion neurons. Each can connect to up to 50,000 other neurons in the: anatomy of the neuron. Keeps the cell alive: needs sugars and oxygen to do so. Passes messages away from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands. Covers the axon of some neurons and helps speed neural: electric signal traveling down the axon. Will message be sent yes or no question through two types of communication. Stimulation from other neurons makes pumps change. Inside of cell is more negative than outside: na+/k+ pump. Imbalance causing membrane to be polarized (more cl- inside more na+/k+ outside the cell: while na+/k+ pump is open cell will maintain resting potential. Depolarization: cell becomes more neutrally and eventually positively charged, allows positive elements to flow inside through sodium gate opening. Threshold: minimum stimulation required to trigger action potential.
