Social networks and technology, insofar as groups are our link to the larger society, we can use our acquaintances in groups to make connections with people in different social circles. Strong tie or weak: race and gender in networking . Men do better through networking than women because more men are in leadership positions in jobs. 1997: 63% of men and 41% of women use networking to get a job. (31% of women use classifieds, vs,13% of men) White men tend to be in all white networks, while black men are in integrated networks, because there are fewer blacks to network with: social institutions: organized patterns of beliefs and behavior centered around basic social needs. Functional requisites: society must accomplish these to survive: replacing personnel-people die or leave the group, teaching new recruits- group can"t survive unless members accept responsibilities and established behaviors of group.
