Document Summary
What is social networking: a social network is a web of connections or ties that link people directly and indirectly to other people. Social networks operate at different levels, including ties among individuals, groups and organizations, and societies: social networking refers to the process by which we make connection with others. All people in our network do not interact. Diverse social networks allow us to interact with a diverse set of people. Social networks do not only connect us to one another but to organizations in society. When we communicate online, we lost these forms of communication. The social context of networking: all types of social networking occur in a social context the environment of people, relationships and cultures that surround us. Social networking involves creating connection with others, including strangers. More ties result in more diverse sources of information: however, having many contacts does not guarantee a better social network.
