FIN 101 Lecture 2: Tips and Tricks for Spending

Document Summary

These are rarely revolutionary changes year to year. In most cases, the new model won"t be much different from the old. This means you can buy last year"s model for a lot less money than the newest model. Manufacturers normally want to get rid of last year"s inventory, so they are more than willing to reduce the price on those models/makes. This can save you a lot of money. The catch is that you need to make sure you don"t buy last year"s new car when the manufacturer has radically changed the newest model. In this circumstance, your car becomes worthless very quickly and loses value/becomes obsolete. A lot of people purchase the newest model so they can tell their friends they have the best product. Since there are minimal changes, that would be the only reason to buy the newest model: to brag. For appliances and tvs, no one talks about the year of the model.
