Document Summary

The best way for a manager to use verbal persuasion is through the use of the pygmalion effect. The pygmalion effect is a form of self-fulfilling prophecy, which is when believing something can make it happen and become true. With this, a person may expect something from another, which can turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. This strategy has been used in the workplaces as well. Results have shown enhanced effects when relationships between leaders and their subordinates are strong. Training programs are tools that make use of enactive mastery by having individuals practice and build their skills. A reason as to why training works is because it increases self-efficacy, especially when there is interactive training that gives feedback after completing the training. People with higher levels and sense of self-efficacy seem to gain more benefits from training programs and are seen as much more likely to use this training and skills/knowledge acquired from their training on the job.
