Uses two colors opposite each other on the color wheel. Because the hues are so far apart on the wheel, this scheme is high in contrast. Complementary color schemes are created when colors across from one another on the color wheel are used together in a design split complementary schemes: Uses a color and the 2 colors adjacent to its complement. This creates high contrast w/o the strong tension of a complementary scheme. Split complementary color schemes are created when 1 color is chosen as a dominant color. Then, a 2 color that falls either to the right or to the left of the original color"s complement are used together in a design triad schemes: Uses 3 colors equally spaced around the color wheel. This scheme is popular because it offers strong contrast with balance and color richness. Triadic color scheme are created when 3 colors that form an equilateral triangle are used together in a design.
