When it comes to race and representation in mass media, the view in the mid-2010s is not hopeful or positive. Mediated messages have played a major role in the current state of race tensions in the us. Critical race theory is a useful tool that can help media and social scholars better understand how we arrived here after more than 60 years after the civil rights movement. Critical race theorists have said their greatest fears have become our current reality.
