Document Summary

One of the most pervasive and important issues in all the surrounding areas of intellectual property is the idea of issue of ownership. This deals with something that isn"t different with patents, it asks who actually owns the intellectual property. Determining who owns the property is an important and sometimes complex thing because companies can"t invent patents. Companies can create copyrights from the employees they hire to create work for the entity. Companies that hire other inventors have to list the individual inventors on the patent and acquire the right to own the patent from those people. Some employees are brought on board to invent things for the company. If this is the case, they had to sign an agreement that said they sign their rights to the company at the beginning of their employment. In these cases, companies own the rights and patent, but the inventor is still deemed as the employee.
