Document Summary

Reporting in the courtroom matters because there"s always going to be a balance of first. Amendment/freedom of the press and access to the courts by the public. In addition, it matters because of the trial rules and rules of evidence like hearsay and right to a free trial under the sixth amendment. The federal court has trial rules, each state has its own trial rules, and there"s also county and local rules. Anytime you need to cover legal proceedings, sometimes those trial rules can make or break a case. You should be aware of rule 57b, which says that judges have discretion over courtroom affairs in general. There"s also rule 53 that states photos and broadcasting isn"t allowed in federal court. To combat rule 53, we need to be aware of the sunshine in the courtroom act that was most recently introduced in march 2017 by sen. chuck grassley of iowa.
