Derive insight is important to note because we are not collecting data for the sake of collecting data, we want to get something out of it. This definition is agnostic on technology used, activity to do, and scale of data. The goal of analytics is to turn the data into something meaningful. We are not deriving insight for the sake of deriving insight, it has to serve a purpose. This is usually part of decision making for business organizations. But, there are a lot of steps involved in creating a data set that is useful to derive meaningful insight: Often a lot of work goes into doing this, but there"s a reason! This is usually your business goals or goals. Without a clearly defined list of business objectives you are doomed.
