When set up properly, targets play an important role in performance management. Targets help us make real and tangible improvements. Targets quantify how far someone is from where they want to be and help people appreciate performance gap sizes that they need to close. Evidence based leaders inspire actions to close performance gaps and change how the organization works so they perform better and stay better. Actions aren"t about completing projects on time or making sure the budget is spent by working harder. Action is finding and removing the things holding back your performance. When you remove bad policy or procedures, performance can happen without continuing effort. We don"t know exactly what will work when closing performance gaps, which is a problem with this.
