JOUR 601 Lecture Notes - Lecture 70: Multiperspectivity
Document Summary
When crisis happens, standardized practices of journalism are used. In some ways, this means journalists lose perspective and can"t see the crisis for all crisis that happens. This role of the press stabilizes society during crisis and determines what will be reported on it. When the crisis is problematic for the elite, these officials try to spin the story and information in is to redress the actions to redirect the frame of the story. When the anniversary of these events happen, the press begins to remember these things again through ritualized narrating. Through memory, people try to render their lives in a meaningful way. This deals with connecting parts of the story into either more or less of a unified story where they talk about the multiple narrative types. Only a small amount of the event is remembered. This is done so in a political or hegemonic way.
