PR 680 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Public Health, Focus Group
Document Summary
Studies being conducted have to be reviewed by an irb only if they fit the federal regulations definition of research and human subjects. If the study you want to conduct meets the federal regulation"s definition of research and doesn"t have human participants, then it doesn"t need a review from the irb. Research: a systematic investigation including research development, testing, and evaluation. It is designed to develop/contribute to generalizable knowledge. Any collection/analysis of information, specimens, or criminal justice agency records authorized by a law or court. Authorized intelligence, defense, homeland security, or national security. Systematic investigation: opposite of a disorganized and random thing. Researchers have to have a constructed and thought out research plan containing ideas on what they want to learn and how to do that in the best way. Researchers conducting qualitative and quantitative methods have to use systematic investigating while researching.
