Document Summary

The documentary, america before columbus discusses the dramatic exchange of and interaction between both culture and people of europe and the americas. India in search for spice, power, and resources. Isabella, queen of spain, was trying to feed a growing population as resources were exploited, land was scarce and she had a thirst to push europe"s limits. Europe had 5 critical animals: horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats. Meanwhile in the americas, cities were cultivating crops like corn and potatoes as well as using wooden tools and manpower. One difference between native americans and europeans was that europeans hunted on horses with guns for pleasure, sport and prestige. In particular, they hunted bison on foot, as it provided them with food and clothing. Another difference was that a main food source for europeans was fish because it was cheap and abundant. Columbus, fishing was not an industry because the natives did not need it.
