Disease was a negative impact from the columbian exchange. Natives of the americas had no inherited or acquired immunity to these diseases. Several leaders die, and potentially millions of natives, allowing the spaniards/portuguese to have an easier time conquering the americas. Population prior to conquering was between 40-60 million people. Plantation: large scale agricultural enterprise devoted to growing a single crop for the global market.
