The mind is in the brain: cardiocentric. Created introspection a technique in which trained subjects described their experiences and thought processes in response to stimuli. Introspection: weakness, perception, variability, hard to confirm, only learning about normal and healthy adults, cant learn about development or abnormalities, training bias and length, subjective. Edward titchener: we skipped it but it was not really important, applying the scientific method, correlational- in textbook notes give an example. Is there an association between two different variables. No causation: experimental- in textbook notes make sure to go over weaknesses. Between subjects: example is a rct, within subjects designs, counterbalance, gets rid of order effects, cognitive scientists before cognitive psychology. Could not explain something that occurred but was not reinforced. Technology: advantage, really clear obj. measure, time, and controlled stimulus, eye tracking, movement causes artifact, not pretty looking data. Day 2: cognitive neuroscience, the study of how the brain enables the mind, father- michael gazzaniga.
