Function of long term memory: our ancestors, survival. Be careful of predators: shared memories and experiences. Strengthen bonds: episodic future thought, think about what will happened in the future. Using introspection one starts to use ltm to make assumptions about the future: for example: katy perry tgif, laboratory. Sit someone at the computer and give them a cue word. And then after to imagine or describe a past event or a plausible future event related to the cue word. Then they would score on # of details, emotion, #of nouns etc. Results: there are more details in the past for sensory details than the future but not that much, give them a cue word and acts them to stimulate positive or negative future events. Its easier for positive events than negative: deficiencies in amnesiac patients. Tulving and kc: cant stimulate future thoughts.
