Document Summary

A study has internal validity when observed differences in the dependent variable are directly related to the independent variable and not to some other, unintended variable. Aka, any relationship observed between two or more variables should be unambiguous as to what it means rather than being due to (cid:498)something else(cid:499) These (cid:498)other explanations(cid:499) are threats to internal validity: mrs smith. Physiological processes occurring within the participants that could account for any changes in their behavior. Subjects may change between test sessions of the experiment such that any changes in scores between testing sessions may simply be due to the passage of time rather than any treatment effects. Ex: aging processes growing older, changes in motor. Physiological states: hunger, fatigue, attention span, coordination, cognitive development: regression to the mean motivation. The tendency that participants who receive extreme scores when tested, tend to have less extreme score on subsequent retesting even in the absence of any treatment: selection of subjects.
