Document Summary

Your friend joins a lab and is told that gene blah is over-expressed in cancer. She also wonders if the blah protein might bind to microtubules in cells. She could use a western blot after generating an antibody for blah in order to find out the size: westerns can be used to find out the size of the protein but you need an antibody. Immunocytochemistry could image blah using antibodies in cell by expressing a gfp-tagged version of blah: could purify blah from cells using immunoprecipitation and run everything that was purified with blah on a western and blot for tubulin antibody. Format of quiz same as quiz 4 from last year vocab terms. Material same as quiz 1 from last year. Plasma membrane: made up of lipid bilayer, cholesterol, proteins, and carbohydrate chains, fluid mosaic model, phospholipid bilayer with hydrophobic tails inside the membrane and hydrophilic heads on the exterior and interior of the cell.
