Often considered the starting point of second-wave feminism publication of second sex is beginning of second wave feminism. Interrogation of the pervasiveness and intensity and mysteriousness of the history of women"s oppression . There is nothing natural about gender power, it is a social construction. It is a mystery why this lasted for so long and were unchecked for so long. All agree in recognizing the fact that females exist in the human species; today as always they make up about one half of humanity. And yet we are told that femininity is in danger; we are exhorted to be women, remain women, become women. It would appear, then that every female human being is not necessarily a woman; to be so considered she must share in that mysterious and threatened relam known as femininity. To be biologically a women does not let them be socially women, in order to be socially women, you must possess femininity.
