CSCI 1006 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Bus Mastering, Legacy Port, Expansion Card
Document Summary
Bus master- it is a program that directs traffic on the computer bus or input/output paths. It controls the bus paths on which the address and control signals flow. Legacy- a legacy port or connector on a pc which is a port considered fully or partially obsolete. These have been replaced by more modern parts by some manufacturers. Local bus- this is a data bus that connects either directly or almost directly to the microprocessor. They provide very fast throughput (amount of data transferred from one place to another or processed in a specified amount of time) but can support only a few devices. External data bus- these buses connects a computer to peripheral devices externally such as through the usb ports. System bus- it consists of electrical pathways, which move information between basic components of the motherboard, including between ram and the cpu.
